Description
Ariyike is a girl of about seventeen years of age. She is full of aspiration, hoping one day she will be well-learned like any of the children of Mr. Ayelabola. Then she will be able to rescue her family from abject poverty which has bedeviled them for years before she was even born. Ariyike's decision to be educated is well-known to her father. However, the hurdles of debt and traditions are giant obstacles in her way. The fight between her dream, the debt, and the King's insistence on enforcing tradition is like two rams that want to drink from a pitcher at the same time. They must surely be at loggerheads.
